Safety | Straw | Purse | Volunteers
The Beargrease is almost a 7 day event from start to finish! It gets expensive to have the “The Family In Town” for a week!
Our race officials and volunteers start coming into town on the Friday before the race and many don’t leave Northern MN until the following Thursday. Your donation, no matter how big or small, makes a difference. Your support will help us with:
- SAFETY | The safety of our athletes, canines, race officials and volunteers is our number one priority.
- PURSE | The sport of mushing is incredibly expensive. Marathon teams can have upwards of 70 dogs in their kennel they have to feed and care for every day. The purse is one of the most important line items in our budget — the more we can raise — the more we can help our mushers.
- STRAW | It may sound funny, but our straw expense for our beloved canine athletes is pretty expensive. (The Beargrease can have up to 700 dogs to care for during a race!!) We use a high-quality straw for the dogs to help keep them warm — they need to rest comfortably for the next leg of their journey.
- VOLUNTEERS | The Beargrease is primarily a volunteer driven organization. Our volunteer teams consist of safety personnel, race officials, veterinarians, and more. There are expenses associated with race operations and volunteers that are critical to to a successful race.
