The QPAWS series provides an opportunity to bring the sport of mushing and the unique races included
to an international audience through new digital platforms and international television broadcasts.
With a goal of focusing on the relationships between human and canine athletes, the quality dog care
provided by the top mushers as well as highlighting the iconic races involved in the inaugural year,
QPAWS will allow fans around the globe to experience the race in a more compelling format than
previously available. www.q-paws.com
Beargrease officials were contacted in March and invited to be one of the four races included in the
inaugural year, as the shortest race in the series, the invitation is a testament to the ruggedness of the
Beargrease as well as the unique history.
“The John Beargrease Board of Directors is very excited to announce our participation in the QRILL Paws
2020 Dog Mushing Championships”, States Carmen Schempp, President of the John Beargrease Sled Dog
Marathon Board of Directors. “As one of four inaugural races participating in this mushing race series,
we are excited to be joining forces with other world class dog sled races in Norway, Russia and Alaska;
we’re bringing the excitement of the Beargrease to the world stage”. The International Broadcasting of
the series will help in showcasing Northern Minnesota to mushers and spectators from across the globe.
Schempp states, “With our cultural ties to the unique history of the North Shore, challenging terrain and
weather challenges, The Beargrease won’t disappoint.” Mushers and their teams will face elevation
changes over 35,000 feet while racing in The Beargrease – which is equivalent to running up and down
Mount Everest — three times.
