In 1997 our family dog Bear ( a golden retriever) was injured badly in a car accident as a companion to his recovery we adopted a stubborn Alaskan Malamute puppy we named Meko and ravagely read countless books on dog sports! I was hooked!!! My wife Eileen had a small singer sewing machine and I asked her to attempt the task of making me a few harnesses ( pre internet days hehehe) I would hook up my Amal and a few northern rescues to my bike ouch those were the day. Dog mushing quickly became a way of life for our young family of 5 soon grew and grew and grew until we needed more land for our kennel and collection of critters. We found a farm out in western Massachusetts with direct trail access and easy access to the great north for additional training and distance racing. We saw a need for both amazing equipment and educational prig rams and soon founded our company Northern Exposure Outfitters a spin off of our kennel! We offer everything tours, training, team leasing, lessons, public speaking to full outfitting! We are a hands on interactive educational company first and foremost also the US Danler Dog sled distributors, Red Paw Feeds North East Supplier, Manmat Harness to name a few we care about the future of the sport and I am proud to have our son Bailey Choosing to continue on in my foot steps taking NEO to the next level! Over the past 10 years I have coached, mentored and trained teams and mushers we have leased out teams to smaller kennels and aspiring mushers and because of this my racing has been limited to fun runs. The past few years we have been dedicated to growing and training our kennel with meticulous planning and care to have two distance race ready teams to compete. My son Bailey and I have Iditarod 2023 Father son Racing plans and the John Beargrease is a great race to include in our qualifiers, I look forward to the challenge of each and every race but most of all being on the trail with a well trained and ready team.
