Last year I finally plunged in and participated in my first sled dog race which was something like — baptism by fire and snow! As a team we sure learned a lot on this novice run and are looking forward to giving it another GO! I am very appreciative of all that have helped me achieve the first race and all of the races to follow, including my husband Steve Bergemann, Dean and Sheree Coan, Ryan Anderson, Darcy Stanley-Nord, Jan Bootz-Dittmar, Rollie and Sue DeBauche, Deb Serbousek, Geri and Rick Minard, Mary Ann and Jim Miller, John and Denise Lindquist, Merv and LaRue Hilpipre, Gay Johnson, the “Luck Women’s Group”, Don and Kelly Erlandson, and especially all of the race coordinators, volunteers and supporters that make these opportunities possible. Ready? Alright – Let’s GO!

Last year I participated in my first sled dog race although I have been learning how to be a musher for a few years now. My interest in sled dogs goes back to 1990 when I went to watch the Mid-MN 150 from which I still have the “Musher’s Mustache Mopper”. Following that I was able to attend the Beargrease as a spectator. I found the energy and enthusiasm of the dog teams captivating. Now here I am today with my own team.
What a sled dog looks forward to most after a long day of racing is a nice bed of straw! But guess what happened at last year’s race? Someone stole all our straw right before the race start! Thankfully, great fans like you helped us out during the final hour to provide this vital supply for our amazing dogs.
These dogs simply are the best – and we want to be able to continue treating them that way! Donations from fans like you make that possible. Would you find it in your heart to help us out? No amount is too small in sled dog world!
Stay up-to-date with the latest Beargrease news; winter isn’t the only time we have fun!
