I have been involved in the sport of sled dogs for over twenty years. I started competing in New Zealand doing a mixture of dryland and snow events. We moved to the US four years ago, to pursue our dream of developing a mid- and long-distance racing team. I competed in races in the Western US, before moving to New Hampshire two years ago. Last year I completed the CanAm 100, and now attempting the Beargrease 120. Currently with have a kennel of twenty Siberian Huskies, of which seventeen are of working age, with the remainder in the retirement home. My goal is to simply enjoy spending time with my dogs, human family and being outside.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START RUNNING SLED DOGS AND HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU STARTED?
My Dad worked with sled dogs in Antarctica back in the sixties. Hearing his stories and seeing his photos made me want to get into the sport. I got involved after I left the military when I was 28 years old.
