I moved to Sioux Lookout in 2017 and met Jesse Terry, who has been running On the Land Kennel for many years. I really don’t know if I fell in love with him or his dogs first, but the outcome was getting hitched, and getting deep into running sled dogs. We now co-operate the kennel and train two teams that we take to mid distance races. When not out with the dogs, we enjoy canoe tripping or bike packing, and love seeing our kids grow up comfortable and thriving in the outdoors. To me, mushing brings together so many elements of a good life – the relationship built with these amazing creatures out on the trail, the mental and physical moments that can be quite challenging, and being together as a team wandering across the vast wilderness. There’s not too much else out there that compares! When not mushing, I work as a small town family doctor. My husband Jesse and I raise two awesome kids, Tevai and Miali, who are finally old enough to scoop poop properly.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START RUNNING SLED DOGS AND HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU STARTED?
I started later in life after moving to Sioux Lookout and meeting Jesse, who has been running dogs for many years. It was impossible not to join head first into running dogs after being around them, their joy and energy, and getting out onto this beautiful land.
