Hi everyone! My name is Renee Ruman, and I am studying biomedical engineering at Michigan Technological University. I aspire to attend veterinary school in a few years after I complete my undergraduate degree. I am currently a member of the Mushing Club at Michigan Tech and am excited for the Beargrease 40 to be my first sled race! Not only do I love mushing on a sled, I also really love dryland, where I have competed in canicross. I was first exposed to mushing at the Boy Scouts of America’s national high adventure base, Northern Tier. After helping with chores and getting the dogs ready for a run, I was hooked! Besides mushing, I love all outdoor activities, including backpacking, skiing, kayaking, and wildlife photography. In the future, I am excited to see where mushing will take me in both dryland and on the sled!

I was inspired to start running sled dogs after I spent time with sled dogs at the Boy Scouts of America’s Northern Tier National High Adventure Base.
What a sled dog looks forward to most after a long day of racing is a nice bed of straw! But guess what happened at last year’s race? Someone stole all our straw right before the race start! Thankfully, great fans like you helped us out during the final hour to provide this vital supply for our amazing dogs.
These dogs simply are the best – and we want to be able to continue treating them that way! Donations from fans like you make that possible. Would you find it in your heart to help us out? No amount is too small in sled dog world!
Stay up-to-date with the latest Beargrease news; winter isn’t the only time we have fun!
